18:3 和合本 軍兵卻說:「你不可出戰。若是我們逃跑,敵人必不介意;我們陣亡一半,敵人也不介意。因為你一人強似我們萬人,你不如在城裡預備幫助我們。」
KJV But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succor us out of the city.

BBE But the people said, It is better for you not to go out: for if we are put to flight, they will not give a thought to us, and if death overtakes half of us, it will be nothing to them: but you are of more value than ten thousand of us: so it is better for you to be ready to come to our help from this town.
WEB But the people said, You shall not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but you are worth ten thousand of us; therefore now it is better that you are ready to help us out of the city.
18:4 和合本 王向他們說:「你們以為怎樣好,我就怎樣行。」於是王站在城門旁,軍兵或百或千地挨次出去了。

18:5 和合本 王囑咐約押、亞比篩、以太說:「你們要為我的緣故寬待那少年人押沙龍。」王為押沙龍囑咐眾將的話,兵都聽見了。
KJV And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.

18:11 和合本 約押對報信的人說:「你既看見他,為什麼不將他打死落在地上呢?你若打死他,我就賞你十舍客勒銀子,一條帶子。」
KJV And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.

YLT And Joab saith to the man who is declaring `it' to him, `And lo, thou hast seen -- and wherefore didst thou not smite him there to the earth -- and on me to give to thee ten silverlings and one girdle?'
BBE And Joab said to the man who had given him the news, If you saw this, why did you not put your sword through him, and I would have given you ten bits of silver and a band for your robe?

18:12 和合本 那人對約押說:「我就是得你一千舍客勒銀子,我也不敢伸手害王的兒子;因為我們聽見王囑咐你和亞比篩並以太說:『你們要謹慎,不可害那少年人押沙龍。』
KJV And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the y

BBE And the man said to Joab, Even if you gave me a thousand bits of silver, I would not put out my hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king gave orders to you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Take care that the young man Absalom is not touched.
WEB The man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I still wouldn't put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.
18:13 和合本 我若妄為害了他的性命,就是你自己也必與我為敵(原來,無論何事都瞞不過王。)」
KJV Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.
ASV Otherwise if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hid from the king), then thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against `me'.
YLT or I had done against my soul a vain thing, and no matter is hid from the king, and thou -- thou dost station thyself over-against.'
BBE And if I had falsely put him to death (and nothing may be kept secret from the king), you would have had nothing to do with me.
WEB Otherwise if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hid from the king), then you yourself would have set yourself against me.
18:14 和合本 約押說:「我不能與你留連。」約押手拿三杆短槍,趁押沙龍在橡樹上還活著,就刺透他的心。
KJV Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

YLT And Joab saith, `Not right -- I tarry before thee;' and he taketh three darts in his hand, and striketh them into the heart of Absalom, while he `is' alive, in the midst of the oak.
BBE Then Joab said, I would have made it safe for you. And he took three spears in his hand, and put them through Absalom's heart, while he was still living, in the branches of the tree.
WEB Then said Joab, I may not wait thus with you. He took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

18:17 和合本 他們將押沙龍丟在林中一個大坑裡,上頭堆起一大堆石頭。以色列眾人都逃跑,各回各家去了。

KJV Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.

BBE Then Joab said to the Cushite, Go and give the king word of what you have seen. And the Cushite, making a sign of respect to Joab, went off running.

18:22 和合本 撒督的兒子亞希瑪斯又對約押說:「無論怎樣,求你容我隨著古示人跑去。」約押說:「我兒,你報這信息,既不得賞賜,何必要跑去呢?」
KJV Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushy. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?
ASV Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But come what may, let me, I pray thee, also run after the Cushite. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou wilt have no reward for the tidings?
YLT And Ahimaaz son of Zadok addeth again, and saith unto Joab, `And whatever it be, let me run, I pray thee, I also, after the Cushite.' And Joab saith, `Why `is' this -- thou art running, my son, and for thee there are no tidings found?' --
BBE Then Ahimaaz, the son of Zadok, said to Joab again, Whatever may come of it, let me go after the Cushite. And Joab said, Why have you a desire to go, my son, seeing that you will get no reward for your news?
WEB Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But come what may, Please let me also run after the Cushite. Joab said, Why will you run, my son, seeing that you will have no reward for the news?
18:23 和合本 他又說:「無論怎樣,我要跑去。」約押說:「你跑去吧!」亞希瑪斯就從平原往前跑,跑過古示人去了。
KJV But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushy.

BBE Whatever may come of it, he said, I will go. Then he said to him, Go. So Ahimaaz went running by the lowland road and overtook the Cushite.

18:24 和合本 大衛正坐在城甕裡。守望的人上城門樓的頂上,舉目觀看,見有一個人獨自跑來。
KJV And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.
ASV Now David was sitting between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, a man running alone.
YLT And David is sitting between the two gates, and the watchman goeth unto the roof of the gate, unto the wall, and lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, a man running by himself.
BBE Now David was seated between the two town doors; and the watchman went up to the roof of the doorways, on the wall, and, lifting up his eyes, saw a man running by himself.

18:25 和合本 守望的人就大聲告訴王。王說:「他若獨自來,必是報口信的。」那人跑得漸漸近了。

WEB The watchman cried, and told the king. The king said, If he be alone, there is news in his mouth. He came apace, and drew near.
18:26 和合本 守望的人又見一人跑來,就對守城門的人說:「又有一人獨自跑來。」王說:「這也必是報信的。」
KJV And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.
ASV And the watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold, `another' man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.
YLT And the watchman seeth another man running, and the watchman calleth unto the gatekeeper, and saith, `Lo, a man running by himself;' and the king saith, `Also this one is bearing tidings.'
BBE Then the watchman saw another man running: and crying out in the direction of the door he said, Here is another man running by himself. And the king said, He, like the other, comes with news.
WEB The watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the porter, and said, Behold, another man running alone. The king said, He also brings news.
18:27 和合本 守望的人說:「我看前頭人的跑法,好像撒督的兒子亞希瑪斯的跑法一樣。」王說:「他是個好人,必是報好信息。」
KJV And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.

BBE And the watchman said, It seems to me that the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz, the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and his news will be good.

18:28 和合本 亞希瑪斯向王呼叫說:「平安了!」就在王面前臉伏於地叩拜,說:「耶和華你的神是應當稱頌的,因他已將那舉手攻擊我主我王的人交給王了。」
KJV And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.
ASV And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, Blessed be Jehovah thy God, who hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.
YLT And Ahimaaz calleth and saith unto the king, `Peace;' and he boweth himself to the king, on his face, to the earth, and saith, `Blessed `is' Jehovah thy God who hath shut up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king.'
BBE And Ahimaaz, crying out to the king, said, It is well. And falling down before the king, with his face to the earth, he said, May the Lord your God be praised, who has given up the men who took up arms against my lord the king!

KJV And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.

YLT And the king saith, `Peace to the youth -- to Absalom?' And Ahimaaz saith, `I saw the great multitude, at the sending away of the servant of the king, even thy servant `by' Joab, and I have not known what `it is'.'

ASV And, behold, the Cushite came; and the Cushite said, Tidings for my lord the king; for Jehovah hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.
YLT And lo, the Cushite hath come, and the Cushite saith, `Let tidings be proclaimed, my lord, O king; for Jehovah hath delivered thee to-day out of the hand of all those rising up against thee.'
BBE And then the Cushite came and said, I have news for my lord the king: today the Lord has done right in your cause against all those who took up arms against you.

YLT And the king saith unto the Cushite, `Peace to the youth -- to Absalom?' And the Cushite saith, `Let them be -- as the youth -- the enemies of my lord the king, and all who have risen up against thee for evil.'
BBE And the king said to the Cushite, Is the young man Absalom safe? And the Cushite said in answer, May all the king's haters and those who do evil against the king, be as that young man is!
