Introducing The Son of God

Bible Reading: John 1:1-12

Have you ever noticed that when the Holy Spirit wants to teach us a great spiritual truth he often uses very simple words? In this passage John, guided by the Holy Spirit, is setting down certain facts and offering proof that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. How does he say it? In short simple words -- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Even a child can say those words.

Jesus is the Word (v.1-5)

Just as words reveal our thoughts, so Jesus reveals God to us. I cannot see or read your thoughts. But when you express those thoughts in words, I know what you are thinking. Words can be seen and heard. In the same way Jesus makes God visible. Read John 1:18. In Jesus we can see and hear what God is like.

Jesus and the world (v.11)

Jesus came from heaven into the world he had made. But the people of that world refused to recognise him. Imagine how he felt. It would be like a man who had provided a home for his family and paid for all their expenses. Then one night when he arrived home, they would not open the door to him. They wanted what he gave them but they do not want him. Remember the world is still the same. It has not changed. Since you have accepted Christ, that world will not want you because it does not want him.

Jesus and the believer (v.12)

There were some who did receive him of course. What does receive mean? Is it the same as believing? If I offered you a large gift, you could only receive it when you believed in my offer. Receiving includes taking and accepting, but first of all it means to believe in what is offered.

The moment you believe, God starts giving and you start receiving. He is a giving God. What does he have to give you today?

THINK ABOUT THIS: If we refuse to receive Christ, we cannot receive Gods other gifts.
