23:1 和合本 你若與官長坐席,要留意在你面前的是誰。
KJV When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
ASV When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, Consider diligently him that is before thee;
YLT When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, Thou considerest diligently that which `is' before thee,
BBE When you take your seat at the feast with a ruler, give thought with care to what is before you;

23:2 和合本 你若是貪食的,就當拿刀放在喉嚨上。
KJV And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
ASV And put a knife to thy throat, If thou be a man given to appetite.
YLT And thou hast put a knife to thy throat, If thou `art' a man of appetite.
BBE And put a knife to your throat, if you have a strong desire for food.
WEB Put a knife to your throat,
23:3 和合本 不可貪戀他的美食,因為是哄人的食物。
KJV Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
ASV Be not desirous of his dainties; Seeing they are deceitful food.
YLT Have no desire to his dainties, seeing it `is' lying food.
BBE Have no desire for his delicate food, for it is the bread of deceit.
WEB Don't be desirous of his dainties,
23:4 和合本 不要勞碌求富,休仗自己的聰明。
KJV Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
ASV Weary not thyself to be rich; Cease from thine own wisdom.
YLT Labour not to make wealth, From thine own understanding cease, Dost thou cause thine eyes to fly upon it? Then it is not.
BBE Take no care to get wealth; let there be an end to your desire for money.
WEB Don't weary yourself to be rich.
23:5 和合本 你豈要定睛在虛無的錢財上嗎?因錢財必長翅膀,如鷹向天飛去。
KJV Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
ASV Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For `riches' certainly make themselves wings, Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.
YLT For wealth maketh to itself wings, As an eagle it flieth to the heavens.
BBE Are your eyes lifted up to it? it is gone: for wealth takes to itself wings, like an eagle in flight up to heaven.
WEB Why do you set your eyes on that which is not?
23:6 和合本 不要吃惡眼人的飯,也不要貪他的美味;
KJV Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:
ASV Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, Neither desire thou his dainties:
YLT Eat not the bread of an evil eye, And have no desire to his dainties,
BBE Do not take the food of him who has an evil eye, or have any desire for his delicate meat:
WEB Don't eat the food of him who has a stingy eye,
23:7 和合本 因為他心怎樣思量,他為人就是怎樣。他雖對你說,請吃,請喝,他的心卻與你相背。
KJV For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
ASV For as he thinketh within himself, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; But his heart is not with thee.
YLT For as he hath thought in his soul, so `is' he, `Eat and drink,' saith he to thee, And his heart `is' not with thee.
BBE For as the thoughts of his heart are, so is he: Take food and drink, he says to you; but his heart is not with you.
WEB For as he thinks about the cost, so he is.
23:8 和合本 你所吃的那點食物必吐出來;你所說的甘美言語也必落空。
KJV The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
ASV The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, And lose thy sweet words.
YLT Thy morsel thou hast eaten thou dost vomit up, And hast marred thy words that `are' sweet.
BBE The food which you have taken will come up again, and your pleasing words will be wasted.
WEB The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up,
23:9 和合本 你不要說話給愚昧人聽,因他必藐視你智慧的言語。
KJV Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
ASV Speak not in the hearing of a fool; For he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
YLT In the ears of a fool speak not, For he treadeth on the wisdom of thy words.
BBE Say nothing in the hearing of a foolish man, for he will put no value on the wisdom of your words.
WEB Don't speak in the ears of a fool,
23:10 和合本 不可挪移古時的地界,也不可侵入孤兒的田地;
KJV Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
ASV Remove not the ancient landmark; And enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
YLT Remove not a border of olden times, And into fields of the fatherless enter not,
BBE Do not let the landmark of the widow be moved, and do not go into the fields of those who have no father;
WEB Don't move the ancient boundary stone.
23:11 和合本 因他們的救贖主大有能力,他必向你為他們辨屈。
KJV For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.
ASV For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause against thee.
YLT For their Redeemer `is' strong, He doth plead their cause with thee.
BBE For their saviour is strong, and he will take up their cause against you.
WEB For their Defender is strong.
23:12 和合本 你要留心領受訓誨,側耳聽從知識的言語。
KJV Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
ASV Apply thy heart unto instruction, And thine ears to the words of knowledge.
YLT Bring in to instruction thy heart, And thine ear to sayings of knowledge.
BBE Give your heart to teaching, and your ears to the words of knowledge.
WEB Apply your heart to instruction,
23:13 和合本 不可不管教孩童;你用杖打他,他必不至於死。
KJV Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
ASV Withhold not correction from the child; `For' if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
YLT Withhold not from a youth chastisement, When thou smitest him with a rod he dieth not.
BBE Do not keep back training from the child: for even if you give him blows with the rod, it will not be death to him.
WEB Don't withhold correction from a child.
23:14 和合本 你要用杖打他,就可以救他的靈魂免下陰間。
KJV Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
ASV Thou shalt beat him with the rod, And shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.
YLT Thou with a rod smitest him, And his soul from Sheol thou deliverest.
BBE Give him blows with the rod, and keep his soul safe from the underworld.
WEB Punish him with the rod,
23:15 和合本 我兒,你心若存智慧,我的心也甚歡喜。
KJV My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
ASV My son, if thy heart be wise, My heart will be glad, even mine:
YLT My son, if thy heart hath been wise, My heart rejoiceth, even mine,
BBE My son, if your heart becomes wise, I, even I, will be glad in heart;
WEB My son, if your heart is wise,
23:16 和合本 你的嘴若說正直話,我的心腸也必快樂。
KJV Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
ASV Yea, my heart will rejoice, When thy lips speak right things.
YLT And my reins exult when thy lips speak uprightly.
BBE And my thoughts in me will be full of joy when your lips say right things.
WEB Yes, my heart will rejoice,
23:17 和合本 你心中不要嫉妒罪人,只要終日敬畏耶和華;
KJV Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
ASV Let not thy heart envy sinners; But `be thou' in the fear of Jehovah all the day long:
YLT Let not thy heart be envious at sinners, But -- in the fear of Jehovah all the day.
BBE Have no envy of sinners in your heart, but keep in the fear of the Lord all through the day;
WEB Don't let your heart envy sinners;
23:18 和合本 因為至終必有善報,你的指望也不至斷絕。
KJV For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
ASV For surely there is a reward; And thy hope shall not be cut off.
YLT For, is there a posterity? Then thy hope is not cut off.
BBE For without doubt there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.

23:19 和合本 我兒,你當聽,當存智慧,好在正道上引導你的心。
KJV Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

YLT Hear thou, my son, and be wise, And make happy in the way thy heart,

23:20 和合本 好飲酒的,好吃肉的,不要與他們來往;
KJV Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
ASV Be not among winebibbers, Among gluttonous eaters of flesh:
YLT Be not thou among quaffers of wine, Among gluttonous ones of flesh,
BBE Do not be among those who give themselves to wine-drinking, or among those who make themselves full with meat:

23:21 和合本 因為好酒貪食的,必至貧窮;好睡覺的,必穿破爛衣服。
KJV For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
ASV For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; And drowsiness will clothe `a man' with rags.
YLT For the quaffer and glutton become poor, And drowsiness clotheth with rags.
BBE For those who take delight in drink and feasting will come to be in need; and through love of sleep a man will be poorly clothed.

23:22 和合本 你要聽從生你的父親;你母親老了,也不可藐視他。
KJV Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
ASV Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, And despise not thy mother when she is old.
YLT Hearken to thy father, who begat thee, And despise not thy mother when she hath become old.
BBE Give ear to your father whose child you are, and do not keep honour from your mother when she is old.
WEB Listen to your father who gave you life,
23:23 和合本 你當買真理;就是智慧、訓誨,和聰明也都不可賣。
KJV Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
ASV Buy the truth, and sell it not; `Yea', wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
YLT Truth buy, and sell not, Wisdom, and instruction, and understanding,

23:24 和合本 義人的父親必大得快樂;人生智慧的兒子,必因他歡喜。
KJV The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
ASV The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; And he that begetteth a wise child will have joy of him.
YLT The father of the righteous rejoiceth greatly, The begetter of the wise rejoiceth in him.
BBE The father of the upright man will be glad, and he who has a wise child will have joy because of him.

23:25 和合本 你要使父母歡喜,使生你的快樂。
KJV Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

YLT Rejoice doth thy father and thy mother, Yea, she that bare thee is joyful.

23:26 和合本 我兒,要將你的心歸我;你的眼目也要喜悅我的道路。

23:27 和合本 妓女是深坑;外女是窄阱。
KJV For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
ASV For a harlot is a deep ditch; And a foreign woman is a narrow pit.
YLT For a harlot `is' a deep ditch, And a strange woman `is' a strait pit.
BBE For a loose woman is a deep hollow, and a strange woman is a narrow water-hole.
WEB For a prostitute is a deep pit;
23:28 和合本 他埋伏好像強盜;他使人中多有奸詐的。
KJV She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
ASV Yea, she lieth in wait as a robber, And increaseth the treacherous among men.
YLT She also, as catching prey, lieth in wait, And the treacherous among men she increaseth.
BBE Yes, she is waiting secretly like a beast for its food, and deceit by her is increased among men.
WEB Yes, she lies in wait like a robber,
23:29 和合本 誰有禍患?誰有憂愁?誰有爭鬥?誰有哀嘆(或作:怨言)?誰無故受傷?誰眼目紅赤?
KJV Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
ASV Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? Who hath complaining? who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes?
YLT Who hath wo? who hath sorrow? Who hath contentions? who hath plaint? Who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes?
BBE Who says, Oh! who says, Ah! who has violent arguments, who has grief, who has wounds without cause, whose eyes are dark?

23:30 和合本 就是那流連飲酒、常去尋找調和酒的人。
KJV They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
ASV They that tarry long at the wine; They that go to seek out mixed wine.
YLT Those tarrying by the wine, Those going in to search out mixed wine.
BBE Those who are seated late over the wine: those who go looking for mixed wine.
WEB Those who stay long at the wine;
23:31 和合本 酒發紅,在杯中閃爍,你不可觀看,雖然下咽舒暢,終久是咬你如蛇,刺你如毒蛇。
KJV Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
ASV Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, When it sparkleth in the cup, When it goeth down smoothly:
YLT See not wine when it showeth itself red, When it giveth in the cup its colour, It goeth up and down through the upright.
BBE Keep your eyes from looking on the wine when it is red, when its colour is bright in the cup, when it goes smoothly down:

KJV At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
ASV At the last it biteth like a serpent, And stingeth like an adder.
YLT Its latter end -- as a serpent it biteth, And as a basilisk it stingeth.
BBE In the end, its bite is like that of a snake, its wound like the wound of a poison-snake.

23:33 和合本 你眼必看見異怪的事(或作:淫婦);你心必發出乖謬的話。
KJV Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

23:34 和合本 你必像躺在海中,或像臥在桅杆上。
KJV Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
ASV Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, Or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
YLT And thou hast been as one lying down in the heart of the sea, And as one lying down on the top of a mast.
BBE Yes, you will be like him who takes his rest on the sea, or on the top of a sail-support.

23:35 和合本 你必說:人打我,我卻未受傷;人鞭打我,我竟不覺得。我幾時清醒,我仍去尋酒。
KJV They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
ASV They have stricken me, `shalt thou say', and I was not hurt; They have beaten me, and I felt it not: When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
YLT `They smote me, I have not been sick, They beat me, I have not known. When I awake -- I seek it yet again!'
