18:1 和合本 與眾寡合的,獨自尋求心願,並惱恨一切真智慧。
KJV Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
ASV He that separateth himself seeketh `his own' desire, And rageth against all sound wisdom.
YLT For `an object of' desire he who is separated doth seek, With all wisdom he intermeddleth.
BBE He who keeps himself separate for his private purpose goes against all good sense.
WEB An unfriendly man pursues selfishness,
18:2 和合本 愚昧人不喜愛明哲,只喜愛顯露心意。
KJV A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
ASV A fool hath no delight in understanding, But only that his heart may reveal itself.
YLT A fool delighteth not in understanding, But -- in uncovering his heart.
BBE A foolish man has no pleasure in good sense, but only to let what is in his heart come to light.
WEB A fool has no delight in understanding,
18:3 和合本 惡人來,藐視隨來;羞恥到,辱罵同到。
KJV When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
ASV When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, And with ignominy `cometh' reproach.
YLT With the coming of the wicked come also hath contempt, And with shame -- reproach.
BBE When the evil-doer comes, a low opinion comes with him, and with the loss of honour comes shame.

18:4 和合本 人口中的言語如同深水;智慧的泉源好像湧流的河水。
KJV The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
ASV The words of a man's mouth are `as' deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is `as' a flowing brook.
YLT Deep waters `are' the words of a man's mouth, The fountain of wisdom `is' a flowing brook.
BBE The words of a man's mouth are like deep waters: the fountain of wisdom is like a flowing stream.
WEB The words of a man's mouth are like deep waters.
18:5 和合本 瞻徇惡人的情面,偏斷義人的案件,都為不善。
KJV It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
ASV To respect the person of the wicked is not good, `Nor' to turn aside the righteous in judgment.
YLT Acceptance of the face of the wicked `is' not good, To turn aside the righteous in judgment.
BBE To have respect for the person of the evil-doer is not good, or to give a wrong decision against the upright.
WEB To be partial to the faces of the wicked is not good,
18:6 和合本 愚昧人張嘴啟爭端,開口招鞭打。
KJV A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
ASV A fool's lips enter into contention, And his mouth calleth for stripes.
YLT The lips of a fool enter into strife, And his mouth for stripes calleth.
BBE A foolish man's lips are a cause of fighting, and his mouth makes him open to blows.
WEB A fool's lips come into strife,
18:7 和合本 愚昧人的口自取敗壞;他的嘴是他生命的網羅。
KJV A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
ASV A fool's mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.
YLT The mouth of a fool `is' ruin to him, And his lips `are' the snare of his soul.
BBE The mouth of a foolish man is his destruction, and his lips are a net for his soul.
WEB A fool's mouth is his destruction,
18:8 和合本 傳舌人的言語如同美食,深入人的心腹。
KJV The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
ASV The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.
YLT The words of a tale-bearer `are' as self-inflicted wounds, And they have gone down `to' the inner parts of the heart.
BBE The words of one who says evil of his neighbour secretly are like sweet food, and go down into the inner parts of the stomach.
WEB The words of a gossip are like dainty morsels:
18:9 和合本 做工懈怠的,與浪費人為弟兄。
KJV He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
ASV He also that is slack in his work Is brother to him that is a destroyer.
YLT He also that is remiss in his work, A brother he `is' to a destroyer.
BBE He who does not give his mind to his work is brother to him who makes destruction.

18:10 和合本 耶和華的名是堅固臺;義人奔入便得安穩。
KJV The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
ASV The name of Jehovah is a strong tower; The righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
YLT A tower of strength `is' the name of Jehovah, Into it the righteous runneth, and is set on high.
BBE The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the upright man running into it is safe.
WEB The name of Yahweh is a strong tower:
18:11 和合本 富足人的財物是他的堅城,在他心想,猶如高牆。
KJV The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
ASV The rich man's wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall in his own imagination.
YLT The wealth of the rich `is' the city of his strength, And as a wall set on high in his own imagination.
BBE The property of a man of wealth is his strong town, and it is as a high wall in the thoughts of his heart.
WEB The rich man's wealth is his strong city,
18:12 和合本 敗壞之先,人心驕傲;尊榮以前,必有謙卑。
KJV Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
ASV Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; And before honor `goeth' humility.
YLT Before destruction the heart of man is high, And before honour `is' humility.
BBE Before destruction the heart of man is full of pride, and before honour goes a gentle spirit.
WEB Before destruction the heart of man is proud,
18:13 和合本 未曾聽完先回答的,便是他的愚昧和羞辱。
KJV He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
ASV He that giveth answer before he heareth, It is folly and shame unto him.
YLT Whoso is answering a matter before he heareth, Folly it is to him and shame.
BBE To give an answer before hearing is a foolish thing and a cause of shame.
WEB He who gives answer before he hears,
18:14 和合本 人有疾病,心能忍耐;心靈憂傷,誰能承當呢?
KJV The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
ASV The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a broken spirit who can bear?
YLT The spirit of a man sustaineth his sickness, And a smitten spirit who doth bear?
BBE The spirit of a man will be his support when he is ill; but how may a broken spirit be lifted up?
WEB A man's spirit will sustain him in sickness,
18:15 和合本 聰明人的心得知識;智慧人的耳求知識。
KJV The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
ASV The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
YLT The heart of the intelligent getteth knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
BBE The heart of the man of good sense gets knowledge; the ear of the wise is searching for knowledge.
WEB The heart of the discerning gets knowledge.
18:16 和合本 人的禮物為他開路,引他到高位的人面前。
KJV A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
ASV A man's gift maketh room for him, And bringeth him before great men.
YLT The gift of a man maketh room for him, And before the great it leadeth him.
BBE A man's offering makes room for him, letting him come before great men.
WEB A man's gift makes room for him,
18:17 和合本 先訴情由的,似乎有理;但鄰舍來到,就察出實情。
KJV He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
ASV He that pleadeth his cause first `seemeth' just; But his neighbor cometh and searcheth him out.
YLT Righteous `is' the first in his own cause, His neighbour cometh and hath searched him.
BBE The man who first puts his cause before the judge seems to be in the right; but then his neighbour comes and puts his cause in its true light.
WEB He who pleads his cause first seems right;
18:18 和合本 掣籤能止息爭競,也能解散強勝的人。
KJV The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
ASV The lot causeth contentions to cease, And parteth between the mighty.
YLT The lot causeth contentions to cease, And between the mighty it separateth.
BBE The decision of chance puts an end to argument, parting the strong.
WEB The lot settles disputes,
18:19 和合本 弟兄結怨,勸他和好,比取堅固城還難;這樣的爭競如同堅寨的門閂。
KJV A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
ASV A brother offended `is harder to be won' than a strong city; And `such' contentions are like the bars of a castle.
YLT A brother transgressed against is as a strong city, And contentions as the bar of a palace.
BBE A brother wounded is like a strong town, and violent acts are like a locked tower.
WEB A brother offended is more difficult than a fortified city;
18:20 和合本 人口中所結的果子,必充滿肚腹;他嘴所出的,必使他飽足。
KJV A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
ASV A man's belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; With the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied.
YLT From the fruit of a man's mouth is his belly satisfied, `From the' increase of his lips he is satisfied.
BBE With the fruit of a man's mouth his stomach will be full; the produce of his lips will be his in full measure.
WEB A man's stomach is filled with the fruit of his mouth.
18:21 和合本 生死在舌頭的權下,喜愛他的,必吃他所結的果子。
KJV Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

YLT Death and life `are' in the power of the tongue, And those loving it eat its fruit.
BBE Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and those to whom it is dear will have its fruit for their food.

18:22 和合本 得著賢妻的,是得著好處,也是蒙了耶和華的恩惠。
KJV Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
ASV Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, And obtaineth favor of Jehovah.
YLT `Whoso' hath found a wife hath found good, And bringeth out good-will from Jehovah.
BBE Whoever gets a wife gets a good thing, and has the approval of the Lord.
WEB Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing,
18:23 和合本 貧窮人說哀求的話;富足人用威嚇的話回答。
KJV The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
ASV The poor useth entreaties; But the rich answereth roughly.
YLT `With' supplications doth the poor speak, And the rich answereth fierce things.
BBE The poor man makes requests for grace, but the man of wealth gives a rough answer.
WEB The poor plead for mercy,
18:24 和合本 濫交朋友的,自取敗壞;但有一朋友比弟兄更親密。
KJV A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
ASV He that maketh many friends `doeth it' to his own destruction; But there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
YLT A man with friends `is' to show himself friendly, And there is a lover adhering more than a brother!
BBE There are friends who may be a man's destruction, but there is a lover who keeps nearer than a brother.
WEB A man of many companions may be ruined,
